Funny how back in January (my least busy month of the year) I was blogging all the time! Well, we’re into the fall season now. I’ve got two schools booked so far and will probably get another regular on the calendar soon too. Working on my fall family shooting schedule which goes out Labor Day weekend – but first I have to get the field hockey games on there and swim meets and all the other family things set in stone first. With my oldest going into her junior year we know this year is going to be crazy with college prep meetings and financial aid applications to work on. Phew!
My goal for this year is to push my clients out of their comfort zone. Sounds scary but I promise you it isn’t!! I have been doing lots of work studying up on posing because it’s always been the one thing I feel has the most room for improvement on my end. There’s some awesome tutorials and photographers that offer great advice. One problem I come across is how so much work for a certain set of folks, but that’s not necessarily my clientele, right? Like, skinny teens and twenty somethings can do a lot of sexy, interesting, weird angled poses that will not work with chubby middle aged moms like me and/or grown ass adults in general like most of my clients. So it’s a matter of taking a lot of this advice, getting out of my comfort zone to direct my clients on how to sit and move their bodies and limbs and tilting their heads while still capturing the best side of you. Not the side that shows the muffin top or the too tight pants that are too tight not for stylish reasons or the extra chins you may be hiding under that scarf. Bear with me this year if I sound a little crazy or try something that just doesn’t work out. I want your portraits to stand out. There’s a time and place for classic portraiture which I’m all about but I also want you to have something with a little edge.
