When my uncle passed, I inherited his collection of photos - vintage family photos as well as tons of meh images from his travels. This one took my breath away. Not b/c it’s some great artistic shot but just seeing those towers. 9/11 was such a generation defining moment and being a baby grown up in DC was wild. I was in Alexandria and played land line tag (because cell service was jammed) between my roomate who was walking home from her job in DC, her dad who sometimes worked at the pentagon, and her boyfriend in NY. All while staring at the tv - every station - and just being stunned at what was happening. Happy Labor day from our little small town just on the edge of DC. Come say hi! I’m working checkout Saturday evening and Sunday morning :) Labor Day weekend art show in Kensington! I only have one piece entered (my silly cactus!) becasue I didn’t get the Luna moth figured out fast enough (oh well). Come! See lots of amazing art all by local artists! Buy prints b/c art is $$$ and prints count! Anyway, I think I’m working Saturday evening and Sunday morning doing check out 😉 #maa #montgomeryartassociation @maaartists #kensingtonmd #supportyourlocalartists Nothing like deciding to grout at midnight. Oops. In this day and age of ai it feels even more satisfying to have embraced an art form that can never be replaced by an artificial intelligence. No computer can cut glass and create and use glue and grinders and rulers like a human can. I started this project knowing what I wanted the end result to be but not knowing how to achieve that. Bit by bit it’s all come together. Hopefully I’ll finish it this week. In November I’ll b having a show and there’s going to be lots of very tactile art that will never be at risk of being confused for Ai. #workinprogress #mosaicart #lunamothmosaic #studioart #supportyourlocalartists Summer swim season is OVER. Phew. It is a TON OF WORK but I really do enjoy it and love creating these memories for my kids and their teammates. I need to take a break before I pull all my favs for a post…but artistically speaking some of my favs aren’t anything special - but they show the bonding of teammates, friendships that blossom every summer, kids celebrating personal achievements, and just overall the awesomeness that our little summer village has. There are so many Good People at our pool and on our team - I really don’t know how I’d get through every summer without them. 125 swimmers! Any guesses how many were photographed in that spot vs how many have been photoshopped in? I have a couple more kids I’m going to grab at tomorrow nights meet and that’s it! Then these guys go off to print so I can get them back in time for the banquet!
