We’ve all heard of ChatGPT and how someday the AI will take over the world. Have you heard of Photoshops Generative AI? Holy cow. It came out in Beta this summer and I’m in love. Sure I’ve played around with it to put people on the beach or in space but what I’ve really found it to be useful for is the minutia of photo editing. “Remove trash cans” BOOM. Done in a blink. “Expand background to edges of image” POW. No blank spaces on the edges where I cropped a little differently than the image was originally shot. It’s amazeballs. Take this example from our Kensington Labor Day Parade:

This edit of the *fabulous* Jamie Raskin was edited in about 5 min with a few goes of Generative AI. Stupid sign post. Trying to select and do it all at once garnered some mixed up results but when I did it as three pieces (the part over his suit, the trees, and then the lower half) I got this edit. A little nudge and fudge around the edges and you wouldn’t know. Normally an edit like this would have taken 20-30 minutes and matching up patterns on his seer sucker suit would have been a pain in the arse. The ability take some of the background edits I do (that clients don’t even notice which is kind of the point) and make them in minutes with a few clicks instead of a more tedious process that can take much longer is magical. Going forward this will make parts of my editing a total breeze and be an absolute time saver.
